The Pump Girls were founded in 1998 to promote Juvenile Diabetes awareness and send a message of hope, understanding and caring to anyone with Diabetes, their relatives, friends and acquaintances...

Debbie Lemus joined the Pump Girls in 2001 when her endocrinologist told her the group was looking for a new member.  Debbie loves to sing and dance and especially likes to choreograph dances to her favorite songs.  Debbie has a lot in common with the other Pump Girls besides having diabetes and wearing insulin pumps, she and Heather share the same birthday in January 28, although Debbie at 15, is a year older.  Debbie lives in Los Angeles, California with her mother Maria and attends Garfield high school.  There she stays busy dancing in the Hip Hop Club which performs at basketball games.  Besides that she maintains grades high enough for the honor role.  Debbie was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 4 years old and got an insulin pump when she was eleven, a perfect choice for her active lifestyle.  Although Debbie is an only child she comes from a large Hispanic family, she says she has so many aunts, uncles and cousins she can’t count them all.  Debbie loves the Winnie the Pooh character. Eeyore, which might explain why purple is her favorite color.  Unlike Eeyore, you can always count on Debbie for a happy disposition and sunny smile.
